The Municipality of the Townships of Potton is entering a new chapter shaped by the Land Use and Sustainable Development Plan adopted in April 2024 by the MRC Memphrémagog. This regional framework sets the direction for how Potton and its neighboring municipalities will evolve—balancing environmental protection, thoughtful urban development, and the well-being of residents. With this adoption comes a clear mandate: Potton must complete the reform of its local regulations by April 2026 to ensure full alignment with the plan’s objectives.
This reform will touch every corner of municipal life. Potton must revise its Urban Planning Program, zoning bylaws, construction and subdivision rules, environmental protection measures, PIIA (Site Planning and Architectural Integration Program) regulations, and heritage preservation policies. These updates will ensure that land use designations, building standards, and development priorities reflect the values of sustainability, accessibility, and resilience. For example, zoning changes will better protect wetlands and forest corridors, while new construction rules will promote eco-friendly infrastructure. The PIIA regulations, in particular, will be re-evaluated to ensure architectural harmony, landscape integration, and cultural sensitivity in designated areas.
A key moment in this process will be the public consultation workshop on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 9 a.m. to noon at Saint-Cajetan Church. This work table is a vital opportunity for residents to help shape the final orientation of Potton’s urban regulations. Through roundtable discussions, citizens will contribute directly to decisions on zoning, architectural standards, heritage preservation, and more. Their voices will help ensure that the reforms reflect the community’s values and aspirations.
With the MRC’s regional vision as a foundation and Potton’s local leadership driving implementation, this plan represents a shared commitment to sustainable development and a thriving future for all. Residents are encouraged to stay informed, get involved, and help shape the future of their town.
